Company Vision

To create inspiring, curious and unexpected arts experiences

for children under 12 and their families

These experiences will involve a combination of artists: musicians, dancers, performers, sculptors and writers in a variety of locations. They can take place in a workshop space, on the street, at the beach, in a park, through an arts venue or inside specially created environments. They take both children and artists together on a journey that is off the beaten track and between imagination and reality.

Giant has been running for over 21 years of providing hundreds of accessible creative experiences to tens of thousands of children and families from across Scotland and beyond. Read a parent's Giant memory here.

0riginally set up to deliver the Children and Young People’s events as part of Glasgow 1990 City of Culture, the organisation has since developed into one of Scotland’s most respected professional children’s arts organisations.

There are three key elements to our work: creating new and spectacular worlds on a big scale; developing smaller, intimate programmes which are more paticipatory or focus on learning and sharing proactice; and revisiting successful programmes and introducing them to new audiences across the country and beyond.

Giant has continually evolved and developed over its 21 years and deservedly holds a reputation for work for children that is innovative & imaginative and of the highest quality.

Maggie Singleton, Arts Development Officer - Children and Young People. Glasgow Life

Artistic Aims

Our artistic aims summarise what we want to achieve in the next three years through our artistic programme:

  • To commission new artists to create new work for and with children
  • To create platforms for local and international artists to collaborate with children
  • To explore the possibilities and invention within a multi-art form approach to provide children with the richest arts experience
  • To ensure that our work is accessible and reaches the hardest to reach children
  • To challenge our peers and communities to celebrate and value children as artists
  • To be rigorous in producing the highest standard of work

Looking Out Looking In imageAccessibility

We recognise that every child is different. We provide creative opportunities for a wide range of children with different needs and a wide range of experience of the world. As a company we try to understand how they understand the world and reflect this in the way we develop our work.  We make it a priority to work in places that are accessible (staff and venue), friendly and safe.

Picture Me imageWho we work with

Children are at the centre of our work. We learn from their inventive ideas, honesty and curiosity. We are committed to telling everyone that children are artists in their own right, full of ideas, essential nonsense and talent.

We work with children under twelve years of age. This is a huge age-range so sometimes we focus on narrower age-ranges, for example 3-5 year olds, 6-8 year olds etc. Some work is specifically for children other work involves families, carers and communities too.

Looking Out Looking In imageOur staff

Giant projects are run by a combination of core staff and freelance artists.  All of our artists are experienced in their specialist art form and in working with children. They all have enhanced disclosure

and their first priority is to create a safe and exciting environment for everybody to enjoy.
