Background to the Project
Children from Mile End, Oscar’s and FARE Out of School groups participated in a series of cabaret masterclasses. These experimental sessions the children from these groups to collaborate with professional performers, sharing their ideas, expertise and creativity.

The result was The Giant Children’s Cabaret, a rare chance for families as audience members to experience a live performance (at the Tron Theatre) developed by children and artists in a professional setting.

The Giant Factory / Folding Clouds & Hoovering Hills

June, July, August 2010

The Giant Factory allowed children to become artists, designers and architects as they collaborated with the Giant creative team (two visual artists and a sound artist) to transform the T5 space at Tramway into an interactive installation (Folding Clouds & Hoovering Hills) for families to explore.

Sound dome imageCollaborating with the Giant artists, children from Barnardos APNA South, Dixon's Young Carer's project and the Tramway Visual Arts group experienced a range of creative activites as they experimented with colour, shape, texture and sound to develop ideas that were translated into vibrant arts pieces.

The result of this process was a true celebration of children as artists. Nearly 4000 people visited the space to turn the huge kaleidoscopes; clamber through the log tunnel; mould the giant pipecleaners; and

make music in the sound dome.

Oh and not forgetting the relaxing that happened on the felt hills (popular with the adults!)
